Entertainment Industry Networking Session to immediately follow the event in the Upbeat Café for Musicians, Songwriters, Producers, Filmmakers, Members of the Public & Entertainment Industry Executives from ASCAP, BMI and other professional organizations.
September 1, 2011, Dix Hills, NY – Just the right song can make a tremendous difference in a film’s success, as witnessed by songs such as “Love Story,” “Mrs. Robinson” from The Graduate, and “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic, just to name a few. These songs not only became huge successes in their own right, but are forever identified with the films for which they were written.
Now, the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center will boost the Long Island independent film and music production communities by presenting a unique interactive event. “An Afternoon of Movies & Music,” Sept. 25th at 2:00 p.m. will ask the audience to help pair songs written by local songwriters with filmmakers seeking great songs for their films.
Songwriters from the Long Island Chapter of the Nashville Songwriter’s Association will perform their works, followed by film screenings by film producers from the Long Island Filmmaker’s Connection.
Then it will be the audience’s turn, as they match featured songs to specific films through an audience participation survey, the results of which will be published to the Internet following the event.
Proceeds from every ticket sold will go to support the Long Island Film & TV Foundation (www.longislandfilm.com), the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) (www.nashvillesongwriters.com), as well as the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center (www.dhpac.org). Tickets are $15 for the public, and $10 for members of the songwriters or filmmakers associations. Your donation is tax deductible.
A number of notable film and music industry executives will be on hand for this event, with an eye toward catching a rising star.
“One of the things we like to do at Five Towns College,” said Dean Martin Cohen, “is to illuminate many of the entertainment industry functions that occur behind the scenes. This evening provides the public with the opportunity to become an integral part of the film-soundtrack pairing process. This is truly an interactive event, allowing audiences to contribute opinions before a film is released. It will be an exciting evening for the audience as well as the filmmakers and songwriters participating in this landmark event,” Cohen said. “We are so looking forward to giving the public this opportunity and look forward to sharing the results,” he said.
There will be a free Meet the Songwriters & Filmmakers Reception after the event in the Upbeat Café.
